Council Administrator Don Cannon to retire

When the Tulsa City Council was first established under the new City Charter, Don Cannon was the first person hired. After 21 years of service as Council Administrator, Cannon is retiring this fall, and the process to find his successor is underway.

The job description for Council Administrator includes 18 essential job responsibilities and these qualifications:

Considerable knowledge of the operations of a large governmental or public administrative agency; considerable knowledge of research methods and report presentations; considerable knowledge of tile financial, budgetary and legislative functions of a municipal government; good knowledge of City-wide operations with municipal government experience; good knowledge of City and slate rules and regulations, budgetary preparation and economical principles; and working knowledge of computer systems and applications. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing; ability to supervise others; ability to diplomatically solve problems; and ability to utilize the highest level of interpersonal skill in order to understand, select, develop and motivate people at any
level within or outside the organization.
