A call for the ouster of Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett
Wednesday, 02 March 2011 18:54

My Fellow Tulsans:

In the years since the City of Tulsa was formed, it has not seen such a time of turmoil and crisis as it currently faces.  The relationship between the City of Tulsa’s branches of government has fallen into ruin, and our form of government now sits on the threshold of losing its democratic roots.  My fellow Councilors and I have sought many solutions to this problem.  However, offers of reconciliation are looked upon as weakness by the Mayor, and he renews his attacks.  Voicing our position with strength and conviction is met with lawsuits against us personally.  Our efforts to work with third parties are either immediately rebuffed by the Mayor, or his conditions are so onerous as to make the outcome a foregone conclusion.

My fellow Tulsans, I consider this a dark day in Tulsa’s history.  However, we are left with little alternative than to remove our Mayor from office by force of law.  I do not join this effort lightly, nor with joy or happiness.

It is only proper that a decision such as this must be given proper consideration of all the facts.  In the pages which follow, a list of grievances outline the duties, failures, and transgressions of Mayor Bartlett.  The evidence is so overwhelming and his unwillingness to work to resolve them so persistent that I believe there is little alternative than ousting Mayor Bartlett from office.

Sincerely,

John Eagleton
